AMSONIA - Amson'ia

Description of amsonia

These perennials form clumps of oval to narrowly oval, grayish-green or green leaves along the stems. The small, star-shaped flowers of Amsonia orientalis are pale gray-blue and are produced in terminal sprays in the summer. This variety is found from Greece to Turkey. Amsonia tabernaemontana produces starry, pale blue flowers in terminal clusters in the summer. This kind is found on the damp grasslands of eastern North America.

Potting of amsonia

Grow Amsonia (Blue Star) in fertile, well-drained soil in sun or light-shade. Leave them alone after planting.

Propagation of amsonia

Increase these plants by dividing them in the spring, by softwood cuttings in the summer, or by sowing seeds in the fall.

Varieties of amsonia

 Amsonia orientalis;
